The designs used are created freehand and drawn on to the skin using a cone filled with henna paste. The paste dries, releasing the dye which stains the skin for a couple of layers. The stain will gradually darken from bright orange to brown over a couple of days before gradually disappearing over a couple of weeks. The colour and richness of the stain will depend on skin tone and is darkest on hands and feet, getting lighter the closer you move to the torso.
What follows are a few examples of designs before the paste has been taken off.
